There is a discrepancy between the illustrated samples and the pattern for the band. Please follow the pattern with stocking stitch on outside and rib on inside (not as illustrated), in order to give a snug fit with a flat surface on the outside for embellishment.

This should say:
Work as for Back of Cushion to * and then cast off.
