We will be based for the whole tour at the 17th century Chateau Forge du Roy in the heart of the Dordogne. As usual, the trip will be a mixture of workshops, knit activities, sightseeing, eating, drinking, music, and lots of fun!
Chateau Forge du Roydates from the 17th century, is furnished with French antiques, and has its own rich history including a time when it forged cannonballs in the Napoleonic wars. In an utterly tranquil valley, it is surrounded by deep woods and hay meadows. The gardens and grounds are beautifully landscaped and managed. There is a heated swimming pool, a lake where you can fish for trout and carp, a gym and sauna, and a massage room. We will have the whole place to ourselves. Paradise!
For the non-knitters there is within easy distance canoeing, cycling, hiking, golf and riding, plus all the medieval architecture and unique culture of the region. The chateau has a sauna and swimming pool and is set in a magnificent estate of 184 acres of woodland, meadows and lakes.
